Big, Orange Chair

Here I am sitting in a big, orange chair. Ho hum....just another day in the city.

Chicken Hearts

Tonight for dinner, Mama fed me raw organic chicken hearts from Whole Foods.  It was dee-licious. I'm going to add it to my list of favorite foods, along with lamb chops, string cheese, and baby carrots.

Happy Leap Day!

It's February 29, which is Leap Day.  It takes the earth 365 days and 6 hours to travel around the sun.  Since there are only 365 days in a year, someone thought of adding on an extra day every four years to stay on track.  It only happens every four years in years that can be divided evenly by the number 4.

(BTW, it's not like I have a giant brain or anything; I lifted all of this from that great encyclopedia in the sky, Wikipedia.)

I Like Them Apples

It's been sunny in the city lately, though it's still colder than a witch's teat (to borrow a phrase). The other morning, Mama and I were in Union Square and the Farmers Market was happening.  I tasted some delicious apples from upstate New York.

You know what they say..."an apple a day keeps the veterinarian away."

My Little Lamb Chop (Raw, Please)

Thanks to Sadie Mae's mom in California www.everybodylovessadiemae.blogspot.com Mama has decided to start feeding me raw meats, instead of kibble and canned dog food.  I guess it makes sense; dogs are carnivores, after all.  And since I've never known a dog to build a campfire and cook its meat before eating it, I eat it raw, like nature intended.

So far, I've tried raw ground turkey (which was okay, but not thrilling), raw salmon (ick!) and lamb chops.  I like the lamb the best.  It is tasty and I like gnawing on the bone.

Here I am with the lamb chop I ate for breakfast today.  Yum yum.

Another Dude Named Jasper!

I was too pooped to write yesterday, but this is what happened.  I met another dude named Jasper at the Union Square dog run!  He's a four year-old Viszla (on the right) and he was there with his brother, a Shiba Inu named Monster (on the left). I couldn't believe it. I have never, ever met anybody else with my name.  Jasper--the other Jasper--played fetch the whole time with his daddy, but Monster kept following me around, which I didn't mind because he seemed cool.

Mama was oohing and aahing over their matching fancy collars, so I decided to take a picture of it.  I hope she doesn't get any ideas about getting me a collar like that; I don't know if it's my style. What do you think? Maybe I'm more of a Gucci guy?

Here's a picture of me and Monster:

Too Cute to Be Cute

This is a picture of me and my cousin, Isabella.  I like her a lot.  She's nice to me and gives me treats. I like to let her hold me.  She always tells me, "You're too cute to be cute!"  I like when she gives me kisses on the top of my head, like my mommy does.

It's Snowing

It started snowing today. You know what that means. Yup, Mama made me bundle up in my fleece onesie and pink down vest.  Here are some pictures of me.  That bright pink splotch in the pictures is me.

I Am Not Amused

Mama's friend, Uncle Tristan, thought it would be funny to give me devil horns.  I am not amused. I am a living, breathing animal, not a TOY. Oh, the things I have to put up with...

Rise and Shine

Lately, Mama and I have been sleeping in, till, oh around 10 or 11. I don't know what got into her this morning, but she got up at 8 o'clock and made me get up too. I was so tired, but I let her take me for a walk. We went to the Leroy Street dog run, but didn't stay long because it was really cold.

We walked all the way home and by the time we got here, I was freezing my butt off! But now I'm having my breakfast and getting nice and cozy on the bed, where it's dark and warm. Mama's in the living room typing away at her computer again. I can hear her...tap tap tap. It makes me veddy veddy sleepeeee...

My Pee Song

I like to pee on bushes
I like to pee on trees
I like to pee on garbage bags
That I see on the street
I can pee standing up
And balanced on one knee

I will pee on anything
If the mood strikes me
But one thing I won't do
(Unless it's an emergencee)
Is pee inside the apartment
That would stink up everything!

Fabrizio the Keeshond

I had another fun morning at the Leroy Street dog run. I met a nine year-old Keeshond named Fabrizio. He was cool and everything, but man, he wouldn't get off my tail!  He just kept following me around and I finally had to ask him to leave me alone. I know I'm cute and everything, but jeez! A guy needs his space.  I thought I'd take a picture of him for my Auntie Lucia who used to have a Keeshond named Lazza a long time ago.

Talking Korean

Mama has started talking to me in Korean. I think she thinks she sounds more stern that way.  If I'm barking and she says to me, in English, "Jasper, quiet!  Quiet, Jasper!" and I don't listen, she'll say, "blah blah blabba baba" in Korean and sound a whole lot more serious about it.

Silly Mama, I don't understand Korean (yet).

A Dog Named Lucia

Guess what?  I met a dog tonight at doggy play group that has the same name as my Auntie Lucia. Hahaahahaa.  I thought it was funny.

They look nothing alike. Lucia the dog is a Havanese puppy and has light hair, but my Auntie Lucia is a human who has dark brown hair. And I've never seen Auntie Lucia's tongue hanging out like that.

How can a human and a puppy have the same name?  If I ever meet a human named Jasper, it's going to freak me out!

Jack-A-Wha?

This little guy sniffing my butt is a Jack-A-Bee named Scraps. We met him during our walk around Gramercy Park this morning. He's half Beagle and Half Jack Russell and they call his mixture "Jack-A-Bee." We already have the puggle, the morkie, the schnoodle, the labradoodle. What will you humans think of next?

I had to check him out and make sure he was cool, ya know?

I'm A Mama's Boy

I admit it. I'm a mama's boy. I like to be near my Mama all the time. Like today, we woke up late, then we went on a big walk all around Union Square and Gramercy Park, and came home three hours later. (Mama snuck in some errands, like making me go to Staples with her to buy a new printer cartridge, but I didn't mind because we went to Petco, too, and she got me a new bouncy ball and some delicious all-natural wild salmon strips.  Yummers!)

When we got home, I drank some water and ate some kibble, then I curled up on my Mama's lap while she typed at her computer. Even though we spent all day together, I still like snuggling with her.

I think I'll go now and take a nap on the couch. I'm tired. I have to be fresh for doggy play group tonight at Biscuits & Bath.

The Good Life

This mural at the Hudson River Piers says it all.  I do have a good life. I have a mommy who loves me, a warm home, yummy food every day, treats, friends to play with at the doggy parks, and more toys than you can shake a stick at.
"Somewhere in my youth...(or childhood)...I must have done something goood.." (I'm getting misty.) I am one lucky dog.

Sigmund Freud Is Alive And Well...And In My Doggy Playgroup

There's a mutt named Sigmund Freud in my Monday night doggy play group.  That's a picture of him, on the left.  Next time I see him, I'm going to ask him to be my analyst.  Ha ha.

A Word About Chicken Bones

Way too many times, I'll be walking around the city and come across a chicken bone lying in the street.  Don't humans know that these bones are lethal to dogs? If we chew them, as we are wont to do, it could get lodged in our throats and make for a very uncomfortable sensation.

So, please, throw those chicken bones in the trash can, where they belong!

[This has been a public service announcement.]

I'm Baaaaack!

Oh thank God, I'm back.  I was locked out of the site for a while for some unknown reason. I think they discriminate against dogs. But, I found a way to get back in and I'm back, suckas!

Meditate and Relevate

I just made up that word, "relevate."  I like the the way it sounds. Kind of like relevant, revel and revelation.  The word, I've decided, means to come to an exciting, new understanding about something in your life.

I try to meditate a little bit every day. It helps me relevate. (get it? snort, snort.)  A few deep breaths help me to relax and center myself after a hectic day in the City. If you don't watch it, you could get caught up thinking that you just haven't done enough in your life...you know, chased enough pigeons, terrorized enough cats, tasted enough human food, and peed on enough fire hydrants. You always look at the dog next to you and wonder, has he got more toys than me? Does he get to eat better treats and sniff more things?  Then you stop and think, wait a minute. I've got a great life. I'm very happy.

Here's a picture of me meditating and relevating.  Sometimes I close my eyes and I seem to be sleeping, but I'm actually in a deeply meditative state that only LOOKS like I've dozed off.

What's Your Reading Level?

Hahahahyahaaaa! While fooling around on the Internet today, I came across a computer program that will analyze your blog and tell you what reading level it's at. I did it for my site and it said high school!  I didn't even go to kindergarten, so I find this very funny. I must be naturally smart.

Union Square Dog Run

This is what the Union Square dog run looks like. There are all kinds of dogs that go there. I'm not scared of the big dogs. In fact, I like to sniff them out and make sure they're not the bullying type. Usually, they're not. There are so many dogs in the City that we all have to figure out a way to get along.

When I first got to the City, I admit I was a little nervous and would bark at dogs on the street. But now, I see the same dogs over and over again, so I've relaxed--somewhat. I still like to bark at two English bulldogs that live down the street from me.

My Scary Snow Outfit

Whenever it gets a little cold around here, like today where it's snowing a little bit, Mama starts hauling out the winter clothes and bundles me up as if we live on the arctic tundra, and not New York City.

She bought me a fleece bodysuit from Trixie and Peanut that covers my whole body and all four legs and zips up the back. And if that weren't bad enough, she makes me wear a down vest over it, and the vest is PINK. You can't even call it red. It's embarrassing!  I feel like a giant strawberry puffball waddling down the street.

You should see the looks the guys give me when I show up at the dog run in that get up. They're like, "Dude, what's with the outfit?" I have to act all nonchalant and say, "The parental unit made me put it on. She controls the food and treats, so I have to do what she says. "

The guys nod in understanding.
"Yeah, I know what you mean," a brindle colored Frenchie pipes up, "last Halloween, my mom made me dress up like an alligator."

So not cool.

[That's a picture of the bodysuit. Are you feeling my pain?]

Met An Obama Dog

I played at the small dog run at Washington Square Park today. There were the usual characters there: some Frenchies, a Maltese, a Bichon, Brussels Griffon, etc, etc.

I met an interesting little guy named Pickles, a five months old black poodle, who had an Obama '08 sticker on his cast. (His daddy had stepped on him by accident and he broke his leg.) Pickles said he's going to vote for Obama. But I ask you, where does Barack stand on dog issues? Does he care about the canine contingent? Will Barack have my back?

Mama says I have to take a bath tonight. I got dirty playing at the dog run because it's dusty and has lots of small pebbles. I don't like taking baths. Oh, poo.

Finally back to posting!

Geez, Mama's been hogging the computer all week, so I couldn't get on here till now.  She's getting ready to go to dinner in the East Village tonight.  Some ramen place called Setagaya or something.

Yesterday, it rained from morning till night, so I was inside for most of the day, except when Mama took me outside to go to the bathroom. Let me tell you, it's not fun taking a poo with rain dripping on your forehead and going in your eyes. I went a little stir crazy in the house and for kicks, I chewed up a ball point pen, ran around in circles on the bed, and sniffed through the bathroom trash can.

Luckily, it was clear and sunny today and Mama took me for a big walk along the Hudson River and to the Leroy Street dog run.  There were a lot of dogs and I got to run around and sniff everything.

Mama wore the funniest looking things on her feet today. They had wheels on them and she strapped each of her feet into the contraption and started rolling along, expecting me to run to catch up with her. She looked like Humpty Dumpty on the wheels (you know, all weebly and wobbly), but only fell down once.  She went down pretty hard, but started laughing, so I know she was okay. (Sometimes, I think Mama might be a little cuckoo. But I love her anyway.)
